BIO
BILL NICHOLS

Maine based native, Bill Nichols' source of inspiration
for his art, is Nature itself. Specifically, sea life, or life
directly connected to the sea. Ancient cultural art with
the same connections has also been a strong influence
in Bills' perspective. Growing up on the coast of Maine
puts Nature front and center in ones life. Nature is big
and bold. Sometimes it is in your face, sometimes it is in
the background. It is always beautiful. It is always
inspiring.
Bill has worked with different mediums over the
decades, sometimes clay, sometimes wood, sometimes
metal. Sometimes a combination of these. Presently it is
with naturally formed and shaped stone that is
found on the Maine coast shoreline. These stones, that
are shaped by ocean waves, are assembled into
representations of life or sometimes,of mythological
life. Some of these art pieces may be "sculptured" or
"worked" to allow them to better communicate the
image Bill is presenting to you , the viewer.
Bill and his wife, Joanna, and their West Highland
Terrier, "Pippin", sail the coast of Maine on their sloop,
HOPE, where there are a great many rocks. Some to be
avoided and some to create with.

Note; Please consider donating to the Maine Island Trail

them yourself ) and contribute whatever you can. (and

WHEN DISASTER STRIKES
No art can be guaranteed from damage but I will offer the following;
If clumsiness, carelessness, children, or acts of nature cause damage to any of my sculptures that you have purchased from me, then by all means, contact me and I will tell you if they can be repaired. If a joint has been broken I can and will fix it for no charge. If a stone piece or pieces have been broken , and if they are easily found and replaceable I will also do that for no charge. If these stone pieces are not easily replaced I will work with you to facilitate an agreeable alternative. There may or may not be a fee on this repair depending on multiple factors. Remember, I don't make these shaped stones. These are stones that have been shaped by ocean waves for millennia that I have to find on limited ocean beaches during an all too short summer. The stone shapes are critical to the individual sculpture piece and the make up of the stone composition can also be critical to the piece. You, the customer, are responsible for all shipping costs in both directions. If you live within a convenient driving distance, then you can drop off and pick up the damaged piece at my studio any time (with a reservation) Ditto if you vacation in coastal Maine . This will save you from shipping. All I can do is promise to try because I want you and yours to fully enjoy these works of Maine art for another millennium. Capt Bill Nichols
